SCERP
7/14/2023
On May 24, 2023, the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (“the Committee,” “ICRC”) considered the information obtained during an investigation into Kathy Thompson’s practice following a complaint made by a former patient. After reviewing this information, the Committee identified significant concerns with K Thompson’s practice in the areas of working with physiotherapist assistants, patient communication and informed consent. The Committee decided to require K Thompson to complete a Specified Continuing Educational or Remediation Program (“SCERP”) in order to address these concerns. The SCERP will include reviewing College standards and resources and working with a practice enhancement coach over the course of a year.
Since 2017, as required by law, the College has been posting information about SCERPs on the public register. A SCERP is ordered by the ICRC when they have identified concerns regarding a physiotherapist’s practice or conduct. A SCERP is an educational program and is not a finding of wrongdoing, professional misconduct or incompetence, nor is it disciplinary in nature.
