SCERP
12/13/2023
On October 30, 2023, the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (“the Committee,” “the ICRC”) of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (“the College”) made a decision regarding the practice and conduct of College registrant Emil Pona. The Committee’s decision followed an investigation into a complaint made by a former patient. After reviewing this information, the Committee identified concerns with Emil Pona’s practice in the areas of professional boundaries, patient communication, and informed consent. In order to address these concerns, the Committee decided to require that Emil Pona complete a Specified Continuing Education or Remediation Program (“SCERP”). Emil Pona is required complete a resource review and successfully complete the PBI professional boundaries course.
Since 2017, as required by law, the College has been posting information about SCERPs on the public register. A SCERP is ordered by the ICRC when they have identified concerns regarding a physiotherapist’s practice or conduct. A SCERP is an educational program and is not a finding of wrongdoing, professional misconduct or incompetence, nor is it disciplinary in nature.
